Yoga for Changing Bodies

Individual drop-in class

1 hPhoenix Wellness Center

Service Description

It is said that yoga is a practice of coming home to yourself. So often, through life's seasons of change, we are left feeling disconnected or out of place in our own bodies. Rather than seeking to change the body or return to a former way of being, the embodied practices that are central to yoga and its roots bring us home again and again, allowing us to meet ourselves with acceptance and compassion exactly as we are in any moment and in any season of life. This class series is for anyone experiencing life's inevitable seasons of change and transformation. This is inclusive of a wide range of lived experience- whether you are navigating life post injury, illness or trauma, living in a prenatal or postnatal body, going through menopause or perimenopause, in transition or experiencing gender dysphoria, struggling with body positivity, or as all of us are, simply living in an aging body. Your instructor for this series, Heather Seton, came to yoga, like many of us, in search of her own healing. After a lifetime of working with victims and survivors of violent crime, and as a survivor herself, she was introduced to trauma sensitive yoga and the practice of healing trauma through embodiment. Through her own practice, she began to experience the healing power of yoga and mindfulness. Heather holds a 200 hour certification in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga and has additional training in meditation, pranayama (breath work), yoga for mental health, and is a LoveYourBrain certified instructor. On May 8th, guest instructor Chris Sampson will step in to offer a restorative perspective on our course theme. Chris has a passion for Yin Yoga, and wishes to share it with others: especially those who suffer from chronic pain, PTSD, trauma, and depression, as he believes it is an exceptional alternative for healing of the body, mind, and spirit. If you are a pregnant woman interested in attending this course, but curious about specific considerations for yoga during pregnancy, we invite you to join us at our Phoenix Rising class the week before this class series begins, on April 24. This registration is for an Individual drop-in class. You can also book the entire 5-weeks for $85 by clicking out of this registration and on to the series.
